Technical Brief - Non-product-specific technical information for improving safety, reliability, and usefulness of marine electrical systems Preventing Hazardous Ground Faults on Boats
Ground faults occur when current leaks from the AC hot wire to ground through faulty insulation, improper wiring, or failing appliances and devices. Standard circuit protection may not guard against:
• | AC electric power leakage from boats into the surrounding waters that may result in electrically induced drownings | • | Low level ground faults that do not trip ordinary circuit breakers but can lead to fires and shocks to people on board |

Blue Sea Systems 2008 Catalog Quick Guide to Circuit Protection
Information about all of the fuses, fuse blocks and circuit breakers provided by Blue Sea Systems is conveniently arranged on two pages. This Quick Reference Guide, also available in the 2008 Catalog, provides an easy way to see what’s available by style, amperage rating and other specifications. Fuses and fuse blocks are on the left; circuit breakers are on the right. Gray horizontal bars indicate AC current rating ranges; red bars indicate DC ranges. Individual ratings are shown within each bar. Devices with the lowest ratings are on the top of the page, devices with the highest ratings are on the bottom. For more information about each device, refer to product pages in the 2008 catalog, or on bluesea.com. Use Blue Sea Systems’ Circuit Wizard to select the circuit protection device and current rating for your application.
